A couple weeks ago we came home to find one of these babies on my night stand.
You can only imagine our pleasure. Or lack thereof. It went something like this:
Sarah: “uh… Scott? There is something built like a spider sitting on my flash light! Please come get it.”
Scott: “Love? That has way too many legs to be a spider.”
The next half hour was then spent getting a cup over the flash light (it was a short one) and realizing what a wonderful idea that was considering their terrifying speed. After finally managing to get it into the hallway we had a fun bout of “hurry, you lift up the glass and I will spray Raid all over!” (Sorry Fred… I know it’s carpet and probably smells a little bit, but look on the bright side: you won’t have bugs there for months)
We then spent the rest of our night trying to figure out what to google to learn about these little suckers… bug with lots of legs in our bedroom… creepy demon of the night… super fast little bugger…
Anyhow, we learned it is called a house centipede and that they are very common in the Midwest. We also found this wonderful article. I couldn’t agree more.
