Gangster Jane

Jane is just beginning to get some control over her limbs. This means that when her hand gets caught in her binky and pulls it out, she actually makes effort to move it back toward her mouth. We are incredibly impressed and think that our baby is incredibly smart. This sort of feat from a person would only impress brand new parents and the Schiavo family. But since we are new parents, we are allowed to shout how amazing our child is from the rooftops. Rooftops being the cyber world in which our blog lives. of course.

Anyhow, Jane likes to move her legs. Like a lot. We will lay her down on a blanket and she will just kick and kick. The trouble is that our baby (like her mama) has no hips so her pants will slowly slide off until they are hanging mid-thigh. While this is actually the style in our Milwaukee neighborhood, Jane isn't too crazy about it. She will fuss until we pull her pants back up because her legs are cold.
But she's not so scrawny, check out this picture Hanna took of Jane.

Our Baby Is a Genius

Our baby is a genius.
So don't worry, if your baby has this expression a good portion of the time, don't worry. Our baby is a genius and she does it, too.
The other day Jane fell asleep on her hand. Then she had to face the world with obvious proof of how awesome she is.
Yeah... we gave her pretty amazing genetics. Just check out her mom.

Jane Meets her Mama's BFFFAEAEAEAEAE

Once upon a time there was a finnish girl. Just before her eleventh birthday she met an american girl. Soon they embarked on a journey of kittens, pop rock, girl bands, incense, succeeding in business, danish airports, and rogue whales...
anyhow, at some point in the journey the american girl met an american boy and they chose to procreate. The finnish girl was somewhat interested in meeting the offspring of the american folk so she used her air miles and came to narnia to meet their little bundle of american-ness.
The visit went something like this:

There was Ians, a baby bath, lots of talk of organic food, and cookies had. (yes. this is a proper sentence. maybe.)
We put a lot of effort into getting a picture of us. Too much effort one might say.
umm... yeah.

The Many Faces of Janie

Jane and I often have quickie photo shoots. They last a maximum of two or three minutes and yield a huge variety of facial expressions. Here are my favorites from the other day (5-6 weeks old):
Oh yeah, and she smiles like a pro now. We absolutely eat it up.

Moby Love

Due to fussiness lately, Jane spends a lot of time in the Moby. She loves it because she can stay snuggled up with her mama for hours on end. Her mama loves it because she still has arms to do things. Win-Win-Win.

Usually the moby works great because I can do things without having to hold her. The other day, however, Janie decided that she wanted to watch her mama intently instead of sitting nice and close so I wouldn't need to have one arm supporting her neck. While kind of went against the purpose of the moby wrap it sure was cute. My view the whole evening looked like this:
Shout out to my sister who sent me her moby wrap :) Thanks, Crystal!

Baby Jane and Daddy

Jane likes to help her Dad study. She was quite a happy camper, but I picked this picture because her expression was priceless.

Also this:
"Aww... quit studying, Dad. Doctors don't need to know stuff."

Statistics & Notes

I keep meaning to post these and thus far I have forgotten.
Today that is rectified. Also I don't expect anyone to read this as it is exceptionally boring but things that I want to be able to remember.

So without further ado:
Janie's Stats and Random Medical Notes
Born:
6 lb 13 oz
18.5" long
—— diagnosed with tongue tie
Leaving the hospital (2 Days old):
6 lb 10 oz
—— frenulectomy by Dr. Chun to correct tongue tie
Four Days old:
6 lb 6 oz
19" long
30.8 cm (head circumference)
One Week:
6 lb 9 oz
Three Weeks:
Stopped breast feeding (or trying to— I couldn't produce more than 10 ml of milk and Jane couldn't correctly latch making it impossible to breast feed [This could be a result of her tongue tie])
One Month, 5 Days:
8 lb 12 oz
21" long
—— diagnosed with a small umbelical hernia (should heal itself in the first year)

I hope you throughly enjoyed this awesome look at Janie's incredibly short medical history.
I was going to include a picture, but that might spice up this post and we just can't have that.

Thanksgiving Adventures

Last night I bought Scott Coke Zero for Thanksgiving. He loves it when it's almost frozen, so he put it in the freezer and then went to play video games with his Dad. Well... apparently the games were very exciting because we went to bed and completely forgot the coke. This morning Scott's studying was loudly interrupted by a loud BANG! Our freezer had exploded open and frozen coke covered everything. haha. oh love.
Mourning his lost coke.

Trying to save at least a drop.

In other news... our baby is super cute. [Help rotating this photo, please.]

and in honor of Thanksgiving... Our scrawny baby's first roll of chub. Excuse the wildness of her limbs, Jane struggles when she has no clothes on. [Struggling involves flailing about as if she has no idea what to do with her limbs when they aren't contained-- you should see the doctor try to weigh her when she can't hold it together.]

Our Funny Little Jane...

You may remember the mass of hair little miss Jane was born with. Shown here is how it has been up until this point:
generally it falls relatively flat. Well... lots sticks up in the back, but the top is usually flat giving her a somewhat normal appearance.

Typically when Jane gets bathed I do her body and Scott does her hair. He is very careful about washing it, drying it, and brushing it. The other day I was in charge of giving Jane a bath on her own. Apparently I didn't realize just how technical the process of doing her hair is. I didn't brush it right after pulling her out of the bath and this was the result: [note: this is after we brushed it to try to help the situation]

I thought it was pretty great, but when Scott saw her he said, "What did you do to my BABY?!" It was pretty hilarious. Anyhow...
The next day Janie blew out, meaning that she was due for another bath. I was determined to get it right this time. So I brushed her hair after it had only partially dried (last time it was completely dry). Apparently that isn't the way to do it either, it turned out looking like Jimmy Neutron.

*sigh* Scott... you are going to need to come back to bath time.

In other news... Janie thinks that her ability to lift her head during tummy time depends completely on how high her legs are lifted.

The first two weeks...

Life lately: [in reverse order because I am far from being tech-savvy]
Scott with his baby girl.
Janie is still trying to figure out the whole putting-each-limb-in-it's-proper-slot thing.
I walked in on her nap and saw she was being very reverent.
A shot for Hanna titled "Jumble of Baby Limbs"
Janie wasn't so amused by my amusement with her dressing troubles.
But she got over it.
My mom came to visit. Three generations of Leone.
Jane started tummy time. I know she looks distraught here but she is actually amazingly good at it and has even started to inch worm. I am not ready for her to inch worm so we have cut back on tummy time.
One day while my mom was visiting I was looking everywhere for Jane. She wasn't anywhere. I finally located her inside of this:

Looks safe, no? Apparently my mom thought Jane was cold so she put an extra blanket on her followed by another blanket and another. Then she topped it off with a couple of burp cloths on her head. We are still investigating this incident.
Jane especially likes sleeping with her mama.
Jane enjoyed her time with grandma who was always up for snuggles.
Family photo.
Jane frequently gets the stare-sies.
This is how Scott studies now. Mega-desk, headphones, and Jane.
We miss Grandma Janet every day.
I had to document that at one point my tiny baby (shown here weighing 6 lb 6 oz) fit completely inside of her boppy.
Jane also got her first bath. She obviously loved it.
We sure love our little Janie-girl.
