Thanksgiving Adventures

Last night I bought Scott Coke Zero for Thanksgiving. He loves it when it's almost frozen, so he put it in the freezer and then went to play video games with his Dad. Well... apparently the games were very exciting because we went to bed and completely forgot the coke. This morning Scott's studying was loudly interrupted by a loud BANG! Our freezer had exploded open and frozen coke covered everything. haha. oh love.
Mourning his lost coke.

Trying to save at least a drop.

In other news... our baby is super cute. [Help rotating this photo, please.]

and in honor of Thanksgiving... Our scrawny baby's first roll of chub. Excuse the wildness of her limbs, Jane struggles when she has no clothes on. [Struggling involves flailing about as if she has no idea what to do with her limbs when they aren't contained-- you should see the doctor try to weigh her when she can't hold it together.]

Our Funny Little Jane...

You may remember the mass of hair little miss Jane was born with. Shown here is how it has been up until this point:
generally it falls relatively flat. Well... lots sticks up in the back, but the top is usually flat giving her a somewhat normal appearance.

Typically when Jane gets bathed I do her body and Scott does her hair. He is very careful about washing it, drying it, and brushing it. The other day I was in charge of giving Jane a bath on her own. Apparently I didn't realize just how technical the process of doing her hair is. I didn't brush it right after pulling her out of the bath and this was the result: [note: this is after we brushed it to try to help the situation]

I thought it was pretty great, but when Scott saw her he said, "What did you do to my BABY?!" It was pretty hilarious. Anyhow...
The next day Janie blew out, meaning that she was due for another bath. I was determined to get it right this time. So I brushed her hair after it had only partially dried (last time it was completely dry). Apparently that isn't the way to do it either, it turned out looking like Jimmy Neutron.

*sigh* Scott... you are going to need to come back to bath time.

In other news... Janie thinks that her ability to lift her head during tummy time depends completely on how high her legs are lifted.

The first two weeks...

Life lately: [in reverse order because I am far from being tech-savvy]
Scott with his baby girl.
Janie is still trying to figure out the whole putting-each-limb-in-it's-proper-slot thing.
I walked in on her nap and saw she was being very reverent.
A shot for Hanna titled "Jumble of Baby Limbs"
Janie wasn't so amused by my amusement with her dressing troubles.
But she got over it.
My mom came to visit. Three generations of Leone.
Jane started tummy time. I know she looks distraught here but she is actually amazingly good at it and has even started to inch worm. I am not ready for her to inch worm so we have cut back on tummy time.
One day while my mom was visiting I was looking everywhere for Jane. She wasn't anywhere. I finally located her inside of this:

Looks safe, no? Apparently my mom thought Jane was cold so she put an extra blanket on her followed by another blanket and another. Then she topped it off with a couple of burp cloths on her head. We are still investigating this incident.
Jane especially likes sleeping with her mama.
Jane enjoyed her time with grandma who was always up for snuggles.
Family photo.
Jane frequently gets the stare-sies.
This is how Scott studies now. Mega-desk, headphones, and Jane.
We miss Grandma Janet every day.
I had to document that at one point my tiny baby (shown here weighing 6 lb 6 oz) fit completely inside of her boppy.
Jane also got her first bath. She obviously loved it.
We sure love our little Janie-girl.

Sticky

About a week after Janie was born I sent my sister a picture of Janie's bassinet rolled in our tiny bathroom with the caption "taking a shower. I guess I'm a real mom now."

Other forms of proof include nipples so raw my bra feels like sand paper, being so busy with my baby's bodily functions I have seriously neglected updating friends with pictures, and waking up to Scott wrinkling his nose and saying, "you smell. did you shower yesterday?"

No. No folks, I did not shower yesterday. Although the smell was likely due to the fact that I was wearing the same socks I put on two days ago. Scott's socks actually because I had been too busy to wash my own. But I wasn't about to tell him that.

I had intended to post a couple pictures to satisfy the masses, but then Janie pooped.

[I can't believe it has come to this, I'm kind of a prude when it comes to bathroom topics, but since becoming a mother this sort of thing seems extremely important.]

And when Janie poops she gets upset. Not when her tummy hurts beforehand, but after it has left her body. She is so traumatized by the few minutes between it exiting and me scooping her up to change her that she thinks she needs to be held for at least an hour following the ordeal.

At first I thought this was strange, she is a baby— she poops. But then I thought about the fact that it takes me around an hour to frost a batch of cupcakes because I feel the need to wash my hands each time frosting gets on me. I don't do sticky and apparently neither does my Jane.

Sweet Baby Jane

After a false labor a few weeks ago, we were beginning to think that our baby was never going to come. Our doctor decided that since I wasn't progressing on my own we would need to be induced. The date was set for the night of October 30 at 8 PM.
Leaving for the hospital— very excited to finally meet our little girl.
After three weeks of getting to hang out while waiting for this baby spooky things like this were beginning to happen... note the matching sweaters, similar scarves, and same boots. Yeah, we get along :)
All hooked up.
Here we will insert 14 hours of labor without pain meds that led to 8 hours of labor with an epidural. Yeah... next time I'm going straight for the epidural. Anyhow... as nasty as labor was it led to this beautiful girl.
Our little baby Jane born on Halloween night at 6:44 PM.
Weighing in at 6 lbs 13 oz and 18.5", Jane came flying into this world (quite literally, I pushed for about 5 minutes and when my doctor turned to tell Scott to put on his gloves (he was going to deliver) Janie shot right out and the OB resident dove in and caught her. Good thing we were having a bed delivery, I think if I had been in stirrups (sp?) she would have slipped right out.

Rocking my hot hospital gown.

Love this.

This outfit is in newborn size... yeah, she's tiny.

Leaving the hospital on a blustery fall day

Jane wasn't thrilled about not having gazillions of nurses and doctors to dote on her.
Dad was determined to get everything from the car to the apartment in one load. I was impressed.
We sure love our little girl.
