Weekly Goodies

Janie's favorite color is no longer pink. Lately anything blue makes her squeal. She will scan her closet and pull out the blue items (she used to do this with pink). I wonder if this has anything to do with her current favorite toy... her blue Amoeba. She even chose her Amoeba to accompany her to a teddy bear picnic when we realized she didn't have a teddy bear. (We gave her all of her favorite toys as options, Amoeba won.)

Anyhow... Janie went to her first rummage sale today and squealed excitedly when we came across this dress. Of course I bought it. Every time she sees it [still] she gets SO excited.
Janie is famous for crying through Young Women's. On the way home this week she was wailing as usual, but my genius young women solved the issue:
She was SO happy after they gave her this banana. She snuggled it and promptly fell asleep.
Scott bought chicken fingers, which I'm not crazy about, I'm more of a chicken nugget girl. But when I went to eat some for lunch I found that the bottom half of the bag is chicken nubbins, chicken finger partials (stay classy, chicken strips). So basically, nuggets. Success.
We set up Jane's high chair. Here she can be seen with her WIC treasure, her sippy. She is a water-drinker (as is her mama) like you would not believe. It's work getting her to put her sippy down so that I can give her food.
Please note the mono-curl (we've had weird weather lately and this is the result)
I always know when Jane puts in her own binky.
& my favorite thing right now... the character Nadia on New Girl. I seriously about peed my pants.

Stragglers

I found some pictures on my phone that somehow dodged the California Weekly Goodies: (this is the last of my Cali pictures [for real this time])

The last few days Janie really was having a hard time sleeping, so when I finally did get her to sleep I obviously felt the need to document that it could be done. [thanks, moby!]

I know I've said it before but I still cannot get over how much Janie absorbs just watching other people. Janet and I had been eating a lot of grapes and one day Jane picked up the remains of a bunch and carefully looked for a grape and then proceeded to pluck it off. It wasn't an easy grape to pluck off, it took effort but she knew that the grapes were supposed to come off. Of course once it was off she had no idea what to do with it.
Little Smarty Pants! [I really think she looks like her cousin, Jake, in this picture...]
Janet bought a giant bag of kettle corn at the farmers market. Jane thought it was a new friend and wouldn't stop patting it [this is a sign of entertainment from Janie...she also tried to do it to the man next to us on the plane, he had a LARGE belly and I spent the entire flight trying to keep her from patting his belly and giggling over and over].
Janet and I are obviously awesome bowlers. [not sure why the machine could handle the 5 letters in Janet's name but not the 5 letters in mine...]
Jane is a full-fledged sitter!
Again with little miss Anti-Sleep
oh Hanna. We miss you every day.

Memorial Day

Janie and I party'd it up on Memorial Day. We started our day with a long walk with my good friend, Emily, and then hit up back to back barbecues. It was pretty wonderful. Scott even came for one of the BBQs, it was really nice to see him.

Janie went swimming in a pool for the first time. She was very cautious. She tolerated it for about ten minutes and then she decided that it wasn't as much fun as she had hoped.
Sorry this is flipped, I have tried many times to flip it and it just isn't happening.

Little Baby Sweatball

Meet little baby Sweatball.
As I'm sure I've mentioned before, Janie is a little heater. When we pull her out of her car seat she is literally drenched in sweat from our air-conditioned car ride.
So Scott accurately named her Sweatball.

Scott found a solution to this problem.
[NOTE: While our AC reads "80", know that 80 is the highest it goes, it was well into the 90's in our house]

In other news:
Janie LOVES bananas.
Clever Jane found a new toy...

Weekly Goodies

We came home from California yesterday so this week we have a modge podge of events (mostly cali, a couple wisco)

While in California Janie enjoyed her baths in the sink

It was good grandma time (seeing as her mom is still too scared to bath a slippery baby out of a sling in a baby bath...)
Just showing off how impressively chubby my little girl has gotten. Also note that she sports an outie belly button.
Jane's favorite place in the whole Brunson house was in her high chair.
She thought it was awesome.
There was a lot of curiousity about the dog (a boxer named Ruby).
Jane liked watching Ruby but wasn't so fond of actually touching/licking her.
"Mom? Can we wash my hand now? The beast touched it."
Janie changed so much in the short two weeks we were in California! She went from just starting to grab things well to being able to make a mess like this:
Janie's first mess.
[I'm sure your children play quietly while you edit photos, but my child emptied out the desk drawer instead.]
Somewhere along the mess-making journey Jane pulled out paper and a pen and made drawing motions. I got very excited thinking, "yes! It's finally time for her to color!" So I pulled the cap off of the pen and showed her how to write her name.

but while I was expecting something beautiful like this:
I got this instead.
maybe next year.

San Diego

Summary: Hanna!

**Sorry these pictures are sideways... I am blogging on the ipad and it won't let me rotate them.
Hanna's dad scored us passes to the zoo!
I think the polar bears were my favorite part. This bear was playing with a stick like a puppy/otter hybrid.
Janie loved it. Well... she took naps here and there and tried to eat things the rest of the time, but to her, that's a pretty awesome day.
Beautiful Balboa Park
Yes... we got looks for taking this shot.
All in all... it was an AMAZING day. We had so much fun. I had no idea that the San Diego Zoo is basically Disneyland with live animals.

California!

Once upon a time there was a handsome prince named futuredoctor. One day while playing at the mcw castle he came upon a nasty dragon called stepone. In an effort to spare them, Prince future doctor sent his fair maiden and first born to a far away land called Cali-fornia while he sought to destroy the beast.

In other words, Janie and I are visiting family while Scott studies. It's pretty rough. We have eaten LOTS of delicious food, shopped down town LA, enjoyed family, and today we are meeting up with the one and only Hanna in sunny San Diego.
Woohoo!

Janie helped me pack... sort of.
Waiting for Daddy to come home (before we left)
I tried to take a picture of Jane waiting for the plane... she sneezed instead.

Mothers

My mom holding the sweet angel who made me a mom.
Happy Mother's Day to my Mom! Thank you for being MY mom.

Do you remember when I was four or five and you would meet up with a friend at the Cookie Jar? You would take me with you and I remember you made me feel SO special because it was just me, you, and your friend. No sisters, just us. I loved that. And just when I thought I was so cool, you would let me order my own lemonade, which was my favorite thing. I remember those trips to the Cookie Jar were my favorite activity growing up because I loved spending time with you and it meant so much to me that  you went out of your way to make me feel special. Thanks, mom!

Finals Are Over!

Well Scott's finals are over. He has successfully completed TWO YEARS of medical school. So much hard work went into this. Naturally I got him a gift.

hey, I didn't say it was a good gift. But I did wrap it up pretty.
Yes. That is a whole box of his favorite shaving cream. (thanks, Jenny!)
Janie also acquired a few new treasures, courtesy of WIC.

Treasure #1: An angry sippy cup.
Treasure #2: Her first tooth brush. Not a gentle infant one (aka washcloth), but a full on tooth brush meant for a 6-year-old.
In WIC's defense, it is hot pink AND wrapped in crinkly paper, which made it a hit despite it's obvious non-practicality.
"I'm just going to set you here for... oh... a year or two."
