As many of you know we recently returned from our Christmas trip to Guam (post coming soon). This trip meant 30 hours of travel EACH WAY. Because we would only actually be on the island for 10 days I was concerned about jet lag. Naturally, I googled it. I looked up ways to avoid it, calculated how we should sleep on the planes, etc.
The reason for this was that when I was 16 I went to Finland with some friends. The entire time I was tired. I slept pretty well at nights (sans an hour starting at 2 am every night) but the trouble was that during the day I would always be yawning. When we left my friends aunt and uncle said, "Sarah sure can sleep anywhere." I'm sure this was in reference to them consistently finding me asleep on their couch in the middle of the day, on trains, in their car, and anywhere else. Basically it was embarrassing, and I wasn't going to let that happen again.
So on our way to Guam we tried to sleep at the proper times. Of course this fell through and we ended up sleeping here and there but when we arrived in Guam at 4:15 am local time, we were feeling pretty good to go. We stayed up that whole day and went to sleep around 9 pm that night. This pattern kept up the whole trip. we were feeling awesome. We had beat the system.
The trouble didn't begin until we got home.
We arrive 1:15 pm in Milwaukee.
We are dead tired and force ourselves to stay awake until 8 pm.
8pm we crash.
10:30 am the next morning we finally wake up.
-----I have no idea what was wrong with us, we never sleep more than 8-9 hours-----
The next night was new years eve so we of course had to stay up until midnight.
We had some friends over, had a great time, they left around 1am, and then started to head to bed. The trouble was that we were WIDE AWAKE. In fact we played Wario Wares Smooth Moves for at least another hour. We finally went to bed a little after two but woke up around 9 am (thanks to an alarm clock).
We were exhausted that whole day.
Cue Saturday night.
We kept ourselves up until 11:30 or so in hopes that we would sleep. It went pretty well. We slept A LOT. In fact we slept right through our alarms to wake us up for our 9 am church. We slept until 11:30 AM. I have never slept that late in my entire life! We are strictly between 6:30 and 8 am risers. It was ridiculous.
Now I am sitting here, while Scott is (hopefully) fast asleep in the next room. I have slept for a total of maybe 15 minutes tonight. Lame-o.
Except I don't have school tomorrow and I can work whenever I want.
So I'm just enjoying the quiet.
My parents live in Majuro! Crazy you were there. What did you go to Guam for? That sounds like a lot of fun. I like your pictures!
