Easter

As you can imagine from the last post our Easter was a bit toned down this year.
Here is Jane's previously mentioned ponytail. Somehow this picture slipped the last post.
We were planning on going to church at the very least but Jane had a scary morning so we decided to keep her home. Bummer because Jane had a cute Easter outfit waiting for her. But we let our poor little sickie wear her jammies instead.
She did, however, still get to open her Easter basket.
We kept it simple. Because let's face it, she basically just wanted to eat it anyway.
I sent Jane and Daddy (also sick) on an Easter egg hunt first thing. Jane , being all of 5 months old, was SUPER INVOLVED. As you can imagine.
Jane also went on her first Easter egg hunt!
I had been pretty excited about it, so I popped her in the moby and we watched the excitement of the "big kids" hunting for eggs.
I say "big kids" because our neighbors are all very small. But they were bigger than Jane, and they could actually walk (or crawl) to eggs. [love Naomi's face in this one. I can't help but wonder if that is her basket, or if someone else is "sharing"...]

And for your viewing pleasure.

you know you want me.

Sick Baby = Sad Baby

Remember how I said Janie was giving me a run for my money? Well... she was super fussy for four days straight. Like really angry. Anyway, we called our doctor on Thursday morning because she had developed a really nasty cold to boot.

Well the doctor didn't have any openings. Neither did the other clinics they are associated with. So they sent us to Children's instead. Not so fun.

Jane had an ALMOST fever (100.2... 100.4 is official fever for infants). Which wasn't good because my thermometer had read her at 98. yeah... time to invest in a new one. I felt pretty bad not knowing how long that had been going on.

After a visit with the doctor we were sent away with two prescriptions for meds and information on Jane's diagnosis.

Poor little chickie. She has been in a lot of pain with her ear. Plus she has been having a hard time keeping food down. We can't give her more than 2 oz of formula at a time or it comes back up.

She also can't sleep because she wakes up coughing every few minutes and crying every few hours from the pain. It breaks my heart. So sorry for having disappeared for a few days, but my little girl needed me.
Her hair is starting to get mega-matted in the back again, remember the dreadlock? So I found a solution: putting Jane's hair in a ponytail, well that and brushing it each day [which seems a little ridiculous, what five-month old needs their hair brushed ever?]. At the end of the day her hair looks like this:
It's pretty awesome.

But she is doing much better today. She had a really rough morning, but has been in MUCH better spirits and had enough energy to play in her jumperoo, so it's a big relief for us.

Miss Behavin' Indeed

You wouldn't know it from this shot but little miss janie has sure given me a run for my money today.
We are still suckling on anything that can be latched on to. Isn't this phase supposed to be over when they're like two weeks old?
yes, folks. That's my purse. My goes-everywhere-has-been-in-too-many-places-to-be-in-my-infants-mouth purse. Jane obviously did not inherit my fear of germs.

In other news...
and Janie blew angry raspberries all day. well... the parts when she wasn't fussing because I dared so something other than wait on her hand and foot. thank goodness these days are few and far between.

Salsa

Scott teethed on burritos and salsa. And pepsi. But that's another matter.
The other day I turned to see Janie bonding with our future salsa. I guess the fact that she is half 3+ generation Southern Californian was bound to show through at some point...
Could you please blend some of these into my bottle?

For those from Southern California, these tomatoes were soon to become Tito's salsa.

and even if you aren't from California... I highly recommend clicking on the link. It's even more amazing than I had hoped. You will soon know why. I hope your speakers are on.

Weekly Goodies

Janie has been conquering all sorts of milestones lately.
#1: Jane can feed herself. Sort of. She gets an ounce of apple juice a day, and in her tiny bottles she handles it beautifully.
#2: Jane has started having an opinion on various issues. If I hold up two pairs of pants she will look carefully from one to the other for a while and then very deliberately select one. I have tried to trick her into taking the one she didn't initially want, and she is very sure of herself. She will CLING to her decision. It's pretty entertaining.

The other day I was digging through her basket of hair bows trying to decide on one and Jane was watching very carefully. Every time a pink one would come up she would reach out and snag it from the pile. It was very cute. I guess our little one has her first favorite color.
She actually was having a good time... this photo just demonstrates that she also tried to eat the hair bows and they weren't as tasty as she had hoped.

#3: Jane played her first game of Candyland. She took it very seriously. She also won.
She was a little confused by the name "Candyland". She thought she could eat it.

I finally broke the news to her that the game itself is about as tasty as her hair bows.
#4: Airplaning. Jane has perfected the art of touching the earth with only your sternum.
But it's tiring.
And then when she is about to try again... she shoves her little bum in the air.

Tonight Jane spent tummy time telling me what a terrible person I was for taking photos when she was obviously suffering.
Imagine her glee when she accidentally rolled over.
A dance ensued. (hence the blur)

And tonight our photos ended as they often do... Jane eating my camera strap. Because nothing is safe anymore.

Janie Makes A Friend...

Today Janie was introduced to Ernie.

My dad gave me Ernie when I was little and I soon started an Ernie collection. Which totaled all of three at it's peak.
She thought he was alright... but he was no zebra. Or dragonfly (her latest fav)

Are you hungry? Cause I think Janie owes you a knuckle sandwich!
yeah... that was absolutely my favorite joke as a kid.

Swaddling in the Summer

Jane gets hot easily. Jane also likes to be swaddled. Her parents are too cheap to turn on the AC when it's 75 degrees outside.

We have finally beat the system.
Onesie+thinnest blanket we own+overhead fan+breeze from window+binky (of course)= naps.
I'm trying to be better about getting Jane to take naps. She truly is better when she takes them.
Look, mom! She has hair on the sides, too :)

Spring Sunshine

You may have heard about a little thing we like to call a "heat wave" making it's way across the midwest. It's AMAZING. Our temperatures have been around 70 degrees.
Janie has been having a lot of fun playing outside for, oh, basically the first time in her life.
let's pause for a moment to admire Jane's button nose (as I often do).
Moving on.
Janie loves to stand up. She is a big girl now, no sitting, no tummy time, she only wants to stand. because sister can.
Sometimes we make her do tummy time anyway... Janie is not a fan.
Thank goodness her parents are suckers.
